Letter: First Tee teaches values to our youth

September 4, 2018

The First Tee program is designated by the World Golf Foundation and The First Tee of Rochester is a gem that should be recognized for its impact on the youth of our community.

Each year Bill “Watty” Watson and Skip Hambright lead over 400 young golfers on a journey of learning not only of the skills of golf but also developing traits that will enhance their journey throughout their lives. Traits like honesty, developing respect and relationships with others, these young people are exposed to the principles of good sportsmanship, family life, community and self-respect and to value of others.

I want to acknowledge the teen and adult volunteers that provide life to this program: Watty Watson, Skip Hamright, Rachael Blauert, Jake Powell, Tori Johnson, Josie Hanson, Lili Brudwick, Erin O’Hara, Tommi Avant, Paul Pehler, Lucas Weist and Oliver Dilger. Finally a special thanks to Paul Widman who supports this worthy program as parks and recreation director.
