TV, Radio To Cover Senate Trial

January 13, 1999

NEW YORK (AP) _ Broadcast networks are playing wait-and-see for how they cover the Senate trial of President Clinton, as a schedule shapes up for the trial phase expected to begin Thursday at 1 p.m. EST.

``NBC will cover the opening session,″ spokeswoman Barbara Levin said Tuesday, ``and additional coverage will be determined as the Senate schedule is released.″

ABC and CBS representatives voiced similar plans.

``It’s a breaking news situation and we’ll come on when news warrants,″ added ABC spokeswoman Su-Lin Nichols. PBS will provide live, gavel-to-gavel coverage, as will cable’s Court TV and C-SPAN II.

Also on cable, all-news networks CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC plan to cover most public Senate action.

In addition, Associated Press Radio, CBS News and National Public Radio will offer extensive radio coverage.
