TOKYO (AP) _ Shane Mack of the Yomiuri Giants went 3-for-3 and led his team to a 9-0 victory over the Hanshin Tigers as the Central League opened its season Friday. Maskai Saito pitched his third straight season-opening shutout.
Terry Bross led the defending champion Yakult Swallows over the Yokohama BayStars 4-1 at Jingu Stadium in Kobe.
Bross, who won 14 games for the Swallows last year, pitched a three-hitter over eight innings and drove in a run with a double.
Sato Leads after Second Round in Munsingwear Cup
INASHIKI, Japan (AP) _ Hideki Sato fired a 5-under-par 66 Friday and took a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Descente Classic Munsingwear Cup with a 133 total.
Keiichiro Fukabori hadthe day's best round, a 65, and was alone in second place at 134.
Masanobu Kimura had a 66 and was tied for third at 135 with Akio Nishizawa and Australian Roger Mackay, who shot 69s.
Ku, Maeda Share Lead in Kenshoen Ladies Dogo Open Golf
MATSUMOTO, Japan (AP) _ Suzuko Maeda birdied the final hole en route to a 70 on Friday to share a one-stroke lead with South Korean Koo Ok-hee after the opening round of the Kenshoen Ladies Dogo Open.
Aki Takamura, winner of last week's Yellow Hat Tokyo Ladies, shot a 71 and tied Michiko Hattori, Higo Kaori and Chieko Nishida in third place.
Another stroke behind at 72 came South Korean Kim Ai-sook, a runnerup in the Yellow Hat, Wu Ming-yeh and Tai Yu-chuan of Taiwan, Aiko Hashimoto and three others.
Riyadh Heads Field for Pace
FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) _ World and track record holder Riyadh headlines a field of six pacers in the $50,000 second leg of the Graduate Pacing Series at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon.
Riyadh is defending his Graduate title at Freehold, having won last year's leg in 1:52 4-5. He drew the rail in the 12th race feature and will be driven by Jack Moiseyev. Riyadh has won three of five races in 1996.
Riyadh won a division of the Levy in 1:52 4-5 at Yonkers Raceway, last Saturday night. His world and all age track record at Freehold of 1:51 2-5 was set in the U.S. Pacing Championship in 1994.
