Lamar 70, South Alabama 65

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) _ Vlasta Jamnicky scored 19 points as Lamar edged South Alabama 70-65 Thursday in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

Jamnicky, who came off the bench, made 8-of-14 from the field. Lara Webb, the top scorer in the Sun Belt with an average of almost 25 points per game, added 18 for Lamar (14-14).

Phyllis Kelly led South Alabama (13-14) with 21 and Denise Grooms added 16.

South Alabama held a 55-28 rebounding edge, but had 28 turnovers. Lamar had only 12 turnovers.
