Illinois 46, Indiana 43 2OT

October 5, 1996

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) _ Scott Weaver threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jason Dulick in the second overtime series and the Illini beat the Hoosiers 46-43 Saturday in the Big Ten.

It was Weaver’s fourth touchdown pass of the game for Illinois (2-3, 1-1 Big Ten).

Indiana (2-3, 0-2) had tied the game at 33 with just 47 seconds to go on Chris Dittoe’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Dorian Wilkerson and a two-point conversion pass to Ajamu Stoner.

Both teams scored touchdowns on their first overtime series _ the Illini on an 11-yard run by Robert Holcombe and the Hoosiers on a 3-yard run by Alex Smith.

But Indiana was called for a false start on third-and-5 at the 20 on the next series and had to settle for a 47-yard field goal by Bill Manolopoulos.

Holcombe had scored two earlier TDs _ on a 66-yard pass from Weaver and a 67-yard run in the first half.

Indiana led 17-14 at halftime after holder Craig Goode ran 18 yards into the end zone on a faked field goal try in the second quarter.

Illinois responded with two quick touchdowns to take a 28-17 lead. Marquis Mosely, making up for a fumbled punt at the 1 that led to an Indiana touchdown in the first half, caught a 29-yard touchdown pass with 11:29 to go in the third.

Illini kicker Neil Rackers recovered an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, and nine plays later Weaver hit Dulick in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown.

Dittoe then scored on a 1-yard keeper late in the third quarter.
