BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) _ Leslie Johnson had 18 points to lead a balanced attack and No. 17 Western Kentucky opened with a 10-0 run and crushed South Alabama 100-42 Thursday.

Johnson was 8-of-12 from the floor and also grabbed 10 rebounds for Western (22-7, 11-2 Sun Belt). Danielle McCulley and Laurie Townsend added 14 points and Sha'Ronda Allen 10.

Tamara Carter had 14 points to lead South Alabama (7-18, 4-9).

The Lady Toppers led 52-27 at halftime after connecting on 57.6 percent of their shots, compared with 24.1 percent by the Lady Jaguars.

Western hit a season-best nine 3-pointers to South Alabama's lone 3.

The game was the third in a row and school-record sixth of the season in which the Lady Toppers scored at least 100 points.
