INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Leandro Palladino scored 14 points to lead Argentina to a 95-71 victory over China on Monday night in the second round of the World Championships.

China never resembled the team that held a 28-16 lead after one quarter and remained ahead for all but the final 6.5 seconds of the second quarter Saturday against the U.S.

Yao Ming, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, turned the ball over four times and scored 11 points in 28 minutes but was never much of a factor. Twice he ran into double-teams in the paint and threw the ball out of bounds. After running into foul trouble the first three games, Yao had two Monday.

China (1-3) struggled from areas of the floor, never developing an inside or outside game and turning the ball over 20 times.

Menke Bateer of the Denver Nuggets, who led China with 19 points, against the United States, scored 13, but 12 were in the second half.

Argentina opened the game with long-range accuracy, building an 18-point lead on 79 percent shooting. At halftime, Argentina led 48-34 and was never threatened in the second half en route to remaining undefeated at 4-0 in the championships.

China pulled within 10 after a layup by Yao, but consecutive fastbreak layups by Hugo Sconochini and Fabricio Oberto never let the Chinese get any closer.

Luis Scola had 13 points, Ruben Wolkowysky had 12, Sconochini added 11 and Andres Noccioni 10 from Argentina.

Argentina shot 64 percent from the field and 50 percent (11-for-22) from 3-point range.
