Local Roundup: Mountain Top Little League Opens Regional With Loss

At Jenkins Twp., Delilah Tanaka struck out 16 batters and led New Jersey to a 6-0 win Saturday over Mountain Top in the 8-9-10 East Regional Little League softball tournament.

Having dropped to 0-1, Mountain Top falls to the losers bracket where it will play South Williamsport at 1 p.m. today.

9-10-11 Softball

Clinton 16, Pittston Twp. 5

At Yough Little League, Clinton eliminated Pittston Twp. from the double-elimination state tournament.

Clinton advances to play Yough at 5 p.m. today.

American Legion Baseball

Swoyersville 6, Boyertown 1

At Boyertown, Swoyersville scored six runs on three hits in the sixth inning to power past the home team in the first round of the state tournament.

Austin Sienkiewicz had a double and three RBIs for Swoyersbille. Dom Bayo had two hits. Nate Baranski pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.

The Region 5 champions of Swoyersville will return to the field at 7:05 p.m. tonight, when they’ll play Hempfield East, a 4-1 winner against Meadville.
