SAO PAULO (AP) — Former South Africa coach Joel Santana has lost his job at Brazilian club Bahia just a month after being hired.
Bahia says the contract with Santana was ended in a “mutual agreement” on Monday, a day after the team’s 7-3 loss to Vitoria.
Santana was hired after Bahia’s 5-1 loss to Vitoria on April 7, a result which led to the dismissal of former coach Jorginho.
Bahia, who recently signed American midfielder Freddy Adu, is yet to announce a replacement for the 64-year-old Santana.
It was the third time Santana had coached two-time Brazilian champion Bahia. This time he led the team to two wins, three draws and two losses.
Santana coached South Africa in 2009 but was fired before the country hosted the 2010 World Cup.
