Ray was born May 26, 1933, on the family farm near Cornlea, to Killian and Christina (Schaecher) Korth. He attended school at St. Ben. On Aug. 18, 1956, Ray was united in marriage to Marie Backes in Lindsay. For 50 years, Ray and Marie made their home on a farm near St. Ben. Ray loved working on the farm in the fields, and raising livestock. He and Marie left the farm and moved to Columbus in 2006. He continued to help out his son, Dan, on the farm. In his free time, his deepest passion was fishing at his cabin in Niobrara. He would spend many hours on the boat looking for the best fishing hole and trying to catch the biggest fish. He participated in the Shell Creek singers, and sang in the church choir for many years. Ray was also an honorary member of the Lindsay Holy Family Church, Knights of Columbus. Ray and Marie always loved visiting casinos and gambling the night away, but he always said he hit the jackpot when he met Marie. Some of his pastimes include playing cards at family gatherings, watching Husker football, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, his favorite love was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always knew how to make them laugh by teasing and telling them silly jokes.
Ray is survived by wife of 62 years, Marie Korth of Columbus; daughter, Sue (John) Johnson of Omaha; son, Fred (Sally) Korth of Omaha; daughter, Laurie (Dean) Krings of Humphrey; son, Dan (Sarah) Korth of Humphrey; daughter Lisa (Todd) Schaecher of Monroe; daughter Lela (Randy) Schaecher of Columbus; son, Ben Korth of Columbus; daughter, Barbie (Lyle) Herchenbach of Lindsay; daughter, Julie (Jamie) Bennett of Columbus; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Betty) Korth of Columbus.
