Albuquerque police probe shooting of ride-share passenger
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Police say they are investigating a shooting that killed a ride-sharing service passenger after the driver opened fire on an Albuquerque roadside.
The man killed has been identified by police as 27-year-old James Porter. The driver who was at the shooting scene with the second passenger when police arrived has not been identified and has not been charged.
Officer Simon Drobik says the shooting happened Sunday evening after the driver picked up two males and an altercation broke out along Interstate 25. The investigation was ongoing Tuesday.
Police have not named the ride-sharing service that the men had used when they requested the ride on St. Patrick’s Day.
Ride-sharing giants Uber and Lyft have policies that prohibit the presence of weapons inside vehicles when they are used for transporting clients.
