Yeltsin Plans Vacation Meetings

July 13, 1999

MOSCOW (AP) _ Boris Yeltsin is on his 10-day summer vacation but it’s not all rest and relaxation for the Russian president, his chief of staff said Tuesday.

Yeltsin plans to review about 20 draft laws and meet with Prime Minister Sergei Stepashin and Viktor Chernomyrdin, Russia’s envoy to the Kosovo conflict, Chief of Staff Alexander Voloshin said, according to the Interfax news agency. Chernomyrdin was recently appointed chairman of the board of Russia’s oil and gas giant, Gazprom.

The draft laws included bills on social assistance, the labor system and the postal service, Voloshin said.

Yeltsin’s vacation started Monday. He is currently staying at his Rus country residence, 75 miles outside Moscow.

Spokesman Sergei Prikhodko was quoted later Tuesday as saying that Yeltsin would probably attend a summit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Istanbul in November.
