Monument honoring recent veterans unveiled in Norwich
NORWICH, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont town has unveiled a new monument honoring veterans who served after the end of the Vietnam War.
The Norwich Honor Roll Monument was unveiled Monday outside Tracy Hall. It includes the names of 74 residents who served since 1975.
Navy and Marine Corps veteran John Sofronas is one service member whose name is on the monument, and he tells www.mynbc.com the town’s effort is “amazing.”
The local American Legion post started planning for the monument five years ago, and it raised $17,000 for the project.
The monument stands next to two other displays honoring veterans who served from the American Revolution to the Vietnam War.
More names will be added to the monument in the future.
