Get to know the Post Bulletin’s new ad director
The Post Bulletin’s new advertising director started this week, after traveling from a place with a very familiar name.
Ken Henry started as manager of the Post Bulletin’s advertising team on Wednesday. He and his family moved from Rochester, N.Y., where he worked for Advance Media NY.
He’s stepping into the role last filled by Mark Barebo, who retired at the end of 2018.
Henry was responsible for expanding Advance Media’s “digital footprint” into western New York.
Prior to his position with Advance Media, Henry managed the advertising sales department of the Messenger Post newspaper in Canandaigua, N.Y., with a focus on integrating print and digital advertising.
That position followed 18 years working for Gannett newspapers in Rochester, N.Y., where he started as a district sales manager in circulation.
Henry said his time helping angry readers who missed a newspaper delivery inspired him to move into advertising.
“It was a perfect transition … After hearing the passion that readers have for newspapers, it was easy to sell to advertisers,” he said.
However, Henry doesn’t think of himself or his team as sales representatives.
He prefers the term, “Media Consultant.” Henry believes that better describes today’s role of working with clients to create a long-term, detailed program to help a business versus selling one specific ad product.
He attended the University of Connecticut and Monmouth University where he majored in business management. Henry is married to Carla and they have a daughter, Carneisha, and a son, Kenneth Jr.
