Cuban restaurant Guajira closes on San Antonio’s Northeast Side

January 24, 2019

A restaurant that specialized in Cuban cuisine on San Antonio’s Northeast Side has closed after about 16 months of business.

Guajira Cuban Restaurant, located just south of Lady Bird Johnson Park on Nacogdoches Road, was reviewed by the Express-News in October 2017. The 1½ star review, between a restaurant we recommend and a standout restaurant of its kind, noted the ropa vieja, garlic-infused fried plantains, Guajira Chicken and a full fish tilapia plate from chef and owner Danelys Wong.

The strip center space that Guajira was located in has a history of restaurant closures; a sign that the 3,500-square-foot space is again available for lease hangs above the building.
