Man sought after bank robbery fails

December 19, 2018

A bank robber was unsuccessful at his attempt to rob the Chase Bank branch on East Pettit Avenue on Tuesday, Fort Wayne police said.

About 10:55 a.m., police said, a man entered the branch at 204 E. Pettit Ave., approached a teller and gave her a handwritten note demanding cash. The note also indicated he was armed with a handgun, police said.

The suspect did not get cash and was last seen running south from the bank, police said.

They said he was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 inches tall, black and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood and tan pants.

The attempted robbery remains under investigation by city police and the Bank Robbery Task Force.

Help sought in robbery of Brownlee Market

Fort Wayne police detectives are asking the public to help identify two suspects caught on camera during a robbery at Brownlee Market at 613 Oxford St.

The two entered the market about 1:40 p.m. Monday, according to police.

In surveillance video, the woman appeared to be casing the store. The man came in to the store about 30 minutes before the robbery asking to buy a “du-rag,” which the store doesn’t carry, police said.

The man returned, pulled a semi-automatic handgun, demanded cash and left on foot. The robber was about 6 feet tall, black with a slender build and about 30 years old, police said.

He wore all black and a red and green stocking hat. He did not cover his face or wear gloves.

Police said the man was wearing a “very unique outer coat with patches or designs on it.”

Anyone recognizing the two suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
