Boston mayor names new transportation commissioner
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Martin Walsh has appointed Gina Fiandaca as the city’s Transportation Department commissioner.
Fiandaca has been interim deputy commissioner since last year. Walsh announced her promotion on Sunday.
She recently worked on the city’s new ParkBoston mobile phone application that allows users to pay parking meters from their smartphones. Earlier in her career, she led the 1998 implementation of Boston’s web-based parking ticket payment system.
As commissioner she will oversee Boston’s transportation planning, traffic management and engineering, roadway signage and parking enforcement.
Fiandaca has worked for the transportation department since 1990. From 2006 until last year, she was responsible for all day-to-day operations of the parking department.
