T-birds lose 2-1
BULLHEAD CITY — The T-birds played better during the second day of the Red Mountain College Showcase in Mesa, Ariz., on Thursday than they did during the first day Wednesday.
The Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A Grand Canyon Region Mohave High School boys soccer team fell 2-1 to the AIA 6A East Region host Lions at Red Mountain High School during the second day of the tournament.
“We played a much harder team and the boys decided to show up and play today,” said T-birds head coach Matt Camacho, as he compared his Mohave squad’s performance to its 6-0 loss to the Gilbert High School Tigers on Wednesday.
Mohave trailed 1-0 within the first 10 minutes and ended the first half behind 1-0, Machado said. “We conceded the other (goal) — almost identically — in the second half and our goal came about the 65th minute,” he added, and were very close to tying the game.”
Senior forward Alvaro Soto scored off a corner kick from freshman forward Logan Burgess, which cut Mohave’s deficit to 2-1.
The nonconference loss dropped the T-birds’ record to 5-5-1 overall, 0-2 in conference and 0-0 in region, according to aiaonline.org.
