Lyon beats Nantes 2-0 to move up to 3rd in French league
PARIS (AP) — Striker Alexandre Lacazette scored his 14th league goal of the season as resurgent Lyon beat Nantes 2-0 to move provisionally up to third place in the French league on Saturday.
Lacazette netted from the penalty spot four minutes into injury time after 19-year-old midfielder Gaetan Perrin — another product of Lyon’s renowned youth academy — put the home side ahead in the 83rd with his first career goal.
The win moved Lyon one point above fourth-place Rennes and two points above fifth-place Nice, which hosts Gazelec Ajaccio on Sunday.
Earlier, Saint-Etienne ended a run of five league games without a win by beating Montpellier 3-0.
Saint-Etienne, which had drawn three and lost twice since a 4-1 win away to Bordeaux on Feb. 7, scored late goals through striker Nolan Roux and midfielders Oussama Tannane and Valentin Eysseric.
However, Saint-Etienne remains in seventh place, one point behind Caen, which beat last-place Troyes 2-1.
Also, it was: Lille 1, Toulouse 0; Angers 5, Lorient 1; Reims 0, Guingamp 1.
Paris Saint-Germain sealed its fourth straight French title last weekend and hosts Monaco on Sunday. Bordeaux hosts Bastia in Sunday’s other game.
On Friday, Marseille’s miserable season continued as it lost 5-2 at home to Rennes, which is chasing a European place.
