Wrestler Accused Of Punching 9-Year-Old Fan
MIAMI (AP) _ Randy ″Macho Man″ Savage has been accused of punching a 9-year-old fan who reached out as the pro wrestler walked toward the ring.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Savage hit 65-pound Jason Huffstutlear in the abdomen Thursday night at the James L. Knight Convention Center, the boy and his mother, Colleen, told police.
The fourth-grader was treated and released at an emergency room.
The Dade County state attorney’s office and World Wrestling Federation are investigating the allegation against Savage, in reality former White Sox baseball player Randy Poffo, the Miami Herald reported.
″We have no proof that Savage hit him,″ said Jerry Brisco, a federation promoter. ″The boy should have been in his seat.″
Savage left town for a bout in Illinois and could not be reached for comment.
Security guard Aurelio Portuondo said the punch was thrown when the boy reached out of his seat to touch the hair of Savage’s manager, a woman known to wrestling fans only as Elizabeth.
″Jason grabbed Elizabeth’s hair,″ Portuondo said. ″The kid didn’t really grab it, he just touched it - it was a slap more than a hit. And then Macho Man threw a stab punch, a quick jab, at the kid’s stomach.″
He said Savage then told the child, ″Don’t do that again, punk.″
Jason remembered the incident differently. He said he had leaned over and reached out to give Savage a high-five.
″He probably thought I was going to punch him. And he punched me,″ said Jason.
