Founder of Casio Computer and Instrument Company Dead at 75

March 5, 1993

TOKYO (AP) _ Tadao Kashio, founder of Casio Computer Co., the major electronic watch maker, has died at 75, company officials said Friday.

Kashio, a pioneer of consumer electronics, set up the predecessor of Casio Computer Co. in 1946. The company became one of the world’s leading makers of digital watch makers and also produces calculators and electronic musical instruments.

Kashio died at the National Sanitarium in Tokyo of respiratory failure late Thursday, company officials said.

Kashio had originally planned to have the company name spelled the same as his own, but decided that the ‘Casio’ spelling was more agreeable in English.

He is survived by his wife, Shige, and daughters Norie Hirata, Taeko Nakamura, Kuzuko, and son Akira.

A private funeral is planned for Monday at Gokokuji temple in Tokyo.
