38 million drivers expected on NC roads this weekend

Nia Harden, WRAL reporterMay 24, 2019

Friday will be one of the busiest travel days of the year as people take to the roads for Memorial Day weekend.

State Highway Patrol troopers said they want people to know they’ll be watching drivers to make sure they’re following the rules of the road.

SHP expects 37.6 million drivers on the road this weekend.

Trooper Josh Legan said there are typically more instances of impaired and reckless driving during holiday weekends.

“People are always in a hurry to get to their destinations,” Legan said.

Troopers said they’ll be keeping an eye on drivers’ behavior to help reduce crashes that are caused by high speed and distracted and impaired driving.
