UK dealing with ‘complex incident’ on ship in Thames Estuary

December 21, 2018

LONDON (AP) — British police say they are dealing with a “complex incident” on board a ship in the Thames Estuary in southeast England.

Paul Kyprianou, a spokesman for Grimaldi Lines, the reported owner of the ship, told Sky News that four stowaways had been found on the vessel, which was coming from Nigeria, and that they were threatening the crew.

Essex Police said a call had been received Friday morning concerning the safety of the crew on board.

Police said there are no indications anyone on board has been harmed and that the incident is not being treated as a “hostage, piracy or terror related” event.

Police declined to provide details about who is on board.
