No. 18 Wake Forest Beats Yale 86-61
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ Jamal Levy led four Wake Forest players in double figures with 19 points in the 18th-ranked Demon Deacons’ 86-61 victory over Yale on Saturday.
Levy also had seven rebounds for Wake Forest (3-0), which forced 20 turnovers. Justin Gray added 15 points, Eric Williams 12 and Vytas Danelius 10 for the Demon Deacons, who shot 50 percent.
Wake Forest tuned up to host Indiana on Tuesday.
Yale (3-2) was led by Dominick Martin’s 15 points and hung tough in the early going despite sloppy play. Yale trailed just 27-20 when Casey Hughes hit a 3-pointer with 5:18 remaining in the half.
But Wake Forest took a 41-27 lead into halftime on Gray’s 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The lead grew to 20 points as Wake Forest scored the first six points of the second half, capped by Gray’s jumper that made it 47-27 less than 1 1/2 minutes after the break.
The lead grew to a game-high 29 points for Wake Forest when Danelius made two free throws for a 65-36 advantage with about 12 1/2 minutes left.
