ROY CLARK - OBIT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country star Roy Cark has died. Publicist Jeremy Westby says the guitar virtuoso and singer died Thursday due to complications from pneumonia at his home in Tulsa, Okla. Clark headlined the cornpone TV show “Hee Haw,” hosting or co-hosting for its entire 24-year run. The country music and comedy show’s last new episode aired in 1993, though reruns continued for a few years thereafter. Clark played the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and other instruments. His skills brought him gigs as guest performer with many top orchestras, including the Boston Pops.

DONALD TRUMP’S “APPRENTICE” OUTTAKES SUBPOENAED

BOSTON (AP) — “The Apprentice” was the TV show that made Donald Trump a star before he became president. But now a group of lawyers wants to use the show to help undo his immigration policies. How’s that work? Lawyers for Civil Rights is a group that sued Trump in February, claiming his immigration policies are racially motivated. And they have subpoenaed outtakes from Trump’s show — because they believe unaired clips contain Trump using derogatory or racist language. The lawyers have put in the legal demand to MGM Holdings and Trump Productions. They say the outtakes will buttress their claim that Trump’s immigration policies are rooted in his beliefs about minorities.

“APPRENTICE” OUTTAKES

BOSTON (AP) — If you’re thinking this isn’t the first you’ve heard about someone trying to get their mitts on outtakes from “The Apprentice,” you’re right. It started just before the 2016 election when the now infamous tape was released of Donald Trump bragging on an “Access Hollywood” outtake that he could grab women by the genitals — and get away with it because he’s famous. There was talk Trump made other sexist or racist comments on The Apprentice set. Former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos has accused Trump of unwanted groping and kissing — and is seeking outtakes. But it’s unclear if she got any. And after Omarosa Manigault Newman was fired from her White House post, she wrote a book in which she says she heard a tape of Trump using the N-word on the Apprentice set. Trump denies this, tweeting the show’s producer told him “there are NO TAPES” in which he utters the racial slur. He also says the word is not in his vocabulary.

MICHAEL AVENATTI RELEASED AFTER ARREST IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CLAIM

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Avenatti says he has “never struck a woman “and “never will strike a woman.” And he says he is confident he will be cleared of allegations of domestic violence. The lawyer for Stormy Daniels — and persistent legal thorn in President Donald Trump’s side — was arrested yesterday in Los Angeles. Police haven’t disclosed details of the case against Avenatti. But an LAPD spokesman says the victim has visible injuries. Avenatti calls the allegation against him “completely bogus” — and aimed at sullying his reputation. Avenatti has spoken about a possible bid for president in 2020. The Vermont Democratic Party has canceled events set for tomorrow and Saturday, where Avenatti was to speak. Refunds will be issued.

CNN vs TRUMP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House and CNN will have to wait another day to hear whether a federal judge will order the Trump administration to return the White House press credentials of CNN reporter Jim Acosta. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, had been expected to issue his decision this afternoon, after hearing arguments yesterday from lawyers representing CNN and the Justice Department. The judge offered no explanation for the delay. CNN is seeking an immediate restraining order that would force the White House to return Acosta’s press credentials — which grant reporters as-needed access to the 18-acre complex.

CHRIS STAPLETON DOMINATES CMA AWARDS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — For a while there, it looked like Chris Stapleton would walk off with all the big prizes at last night’s Country Music Association Awards. But the night’s biggest prize — entertainer of the year — eluded him, as Keith Urban swooped in to win that one just before the show in Nashville wrapped up. Still, it was a productive night for Stapleton. He won four awards, including male vocalist, song and single of the year. And when he spoke about what he would have done differently, it had nothing to do with awards. In one of his acceptance speeches, he thanked his kids for putting up with his absences. He says he regrets “not getting to be as good a daddy” as he’d like to be. Stapleton has four kids — and his wife Morgane is pregnant with their fifth child.

IDRIS ELBA’S DAUGHTER CHOSEN AS GOLDEN GLOBES AMBASSADOR

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It’s been quite a ride for Idris Elba lately. Last week, he was named People magazine’s sexiest man alive. And now, his 16-year-old daughter has been picked for a special privilege. Isan Elba has been named this year’s Golden Globes Ambassador. That means she will help at the glitzy awards shown thrown by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association in January, handing out trophies to winners and escorting them off the stage. Elba is the second ambassador chosen. Last year, it was Dwayne Johnson’s daughter who got the honor.

KATHERINE MacGREGOR - OBIT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — She is best known for playing the kind of petty, gossipy person most people don’t want to hang around with. But those who knew Katherine MacGregor say her role as neighborhood fussbudget Harriet Oleson on “Little House on the Prairie” wasn’t anything like her in real life. Co-star Melissa Gilbert describes MacGregor on Instagram as “a truly gifted actor” who had a sense of humor, even as she played “a despicable character.” MacGregor has died. She was 93 years old.
