Darrell Joseph Schultz was born on Feb. 27, 1959, to Joseph Edmund and March Nena (nee Small) Schultz in Watertown. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was self-employed as a freelance musician. After separating, former wife Leann Schultz and Darrell continued to lovingly raise their son Joe together.
Darrell brightened the lives of many people with his warmth, humor and good heart. He was devoted to his family, and cared deeply about dignity and justice for all people in this country and around the world. Darrell pursued his passion for music beginning as a child and throughout his life, spending countless hours playing guitar and keyboard. He composed and recorded both rock ‘n’ roll and Christian music. He performed as bass guitarist in many bands, including Straight Up, Neo Voodoo, Sequioa, Flip City Live and most recently Robert Castro’s band in Watertown. In the later years of his life, Darrell found fellowship and comfort at the Calvary Baptist Church of Watertown. The church’s ministries provided love and support that helped him find the strength to successfully battle addiction for many years. He will be missed by all of us.
He is survived by his son, Joe Schultz of Watertown; stepchildren, Jenny Huffman of Dodgeville, Steffany Huffman of Madison; siblings, Cherie (David McGranahan) Schultz of Takoma Park, Maryland, Clayton (Susan Westre) Schultz of Paris, France; other relatives and friends.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
