Driver caught in police chase
TOWN OF HERMAN -- A driver was arrested after fleeing during a traffic stop Sunday night in the town of Herman.
A Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the car for excessive speed at about 7 p.m. on state Highway 33 near County Highway AY. The driver stopped, but as the patrol lieutenant approached on foot, an odor of drugs was observed and before verbal contact was made, the motorist sped away at a high rate of speed.
A pursuit of less than a mile occurred before the suspect car lost control on the shoulder of the road, nearly crashing into other traffic before running off the road, becoming disabled and getting stuck in a field, according to a report from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office. The driver and only occupant was not injured, was arrested and taken to jail.
Charges of felony fleeing a traffic officer are being requested through the Dodge County district attorney’s office along with traffic charges including operating after revocation of driver’s license.
No injuries requiring first aid were reported.
Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call Dodge County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Loos at 920-386-4117.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting the crash investigation.
