SE Missouri State 55, San Jose State 48

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) _ Jerome Days and William Ely scored 15 points each to lead Southeast Missouri to a 55-48 come-from-behind win over San Jose State on Saturday.

The win gave Southeast Missouri (3-3) third place in the Illini-Pepsi Classic hosted by the University of Illinois.

San Jose (0-5) never trailed until Anthony Holt scored on a baseline drive to give Southeast Missouri a 44-43 lead with 5:30 remaining. San Jose State jumped back on top with baskets by Darren Greene and Terence Wilborn to lead 47-44 with three minutes left.

But Southeast Missouri outscored its rivals 11-4 in the final three minutes to take the victory. The crucial basket for the Indians came when Holt hit a three-pointer to give them a 50-48 lead with 1:30 remaining.

Southeast Missouri scored its final five points at the free throw line as San Jose tried unsuccessfully to score and then fouled to stop the clock.

San Jose State was led by Roy Hammonds with 15 points and Rich Taylor with 10.
