Spokane Public Library welcomes young adult author Marie Lu

In “Warcross,” the game of the same name has captivated players around the world.

Teen hacker Emika Chen, struggling to make ends meet, also works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally.

In need of a little extra money, Chen decides to hack into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships. But things go awry and she accidentally puts herself into the game, becoming an overnight sensation in the process.

Rather than punish her, Hideo Tanaka, the game’s elusive creator, invites Chen to spy on the tournament to uncover a security problem.

Fame and fortune soon surround Chen, but so too does a sinister plot that could affect the entire Warcross empire.

But that was just the beginning for the teen.

Author Marie Lu’s new book, “Wildcard,” finds Chen on the other side of the Warcross Championships, a little wiser and a little more wary of people she thought she could trust.

Chen now has to team up with the Phoenix Riders to put a stop to Tanaka’s plans while also outwitting whoever put a bounty on her head.

Lu will sign copies of “Wildcard” and answer questions about “Wildcard,” “Warcross” and her other young adult novels at the Spokane Public Library’s downtown branch on Saturday.

On her website, Lu said she will sign and personalize any other books of hers readers would like to bring.

A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit the Spokane Public Library Foundation.
