Smoke bomb starts brush fire that burns 2 homes in Herriman
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities have arrested a juvenile for allegedly starting a brush fire in Herriman that burned two homes and prompted neighborhoods to be evacuated.
Unified Fire Authority officials say the juvenile sparked the blaze while allegedly playing with a smoke bomb.
The name and age of the juvenile wasn’t immediately released.
The Deseret News reports that evacuations were in place for most of Saturday afternoon.
Residents were allowed to return to their Herriman homes by early evening as fire crews got the brush fire under control.
Authorities say the fire burned more than 100 acres and caused scattered power outages.
Four Unified police officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
