Mom, boyfriend arrested in death of her son
KANKAKEE — Dean A. Williams, of Kankakee, and Keyonna M. Deckert, of Colorado, have been charged with killing Deckert’s 1-year-old son on Monday.
According to Kankakee County sheriff’s police, the 34-year-old Williams and the 23-year-old Deckert were arrested for first-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection with the death of Keon B. Brown.
Deckert is the mother of the child, according to investigators. Wiliams is Deckert’s boyfriend.
Based on an autopsy, the preliminary cause of Keon’s death was the result of blunt force trauma.
Both Williams and Deckert were booked into the Jerome Combs Detention Center and are awaiting their initial arraignments on Wednesday.
Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe said his office is reviewing additional reports today to determine the appropriate charges.
According to a press release, at approximately 6:31 a.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Fairview Courts Motel, 2745 South U.S. Route 45.52 in Kankakee, in regards to an unresponsive child. The motel is located in Kankakee, but is under the jurisdiction of the sheriff’s police.
Shortly after arrival, the child was pronounced deceased.
“I commend the quick work of the Coroner’s Office in completing the autopsy in such a short time frame to assist our investigators.” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “Additionally, considering the horrific circumstances, I am extremely grateful for the excellent working relationships our investigators have with the Coroner’s Office and the State’s Attorney’s Office.”
It is the second suspected homicide that has occurred at the Fairview Courts Motel this year.
On Sept. 12, Jamie L. Jones, of Momence, was found shot to death in a room. The 35-year-old Jones was found by a hotel manager.
That case remains under investigation.
