WVC SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Hoskins Twirls Gem For Spartans

At Valley West, the Spartans’ five-game losing skid came to an end thanks to the pitching of Sara Hoskins, who threw 10 shutout innings with nine strikeouts, allowing only five hits and two walks in a 1-0 extra-innings win against Berwick in WVC softball Wednesday.

Valley West finally pushed across the winning run in the 10th, which was scored by Sam Pepe. Julia Franks was the only Spartan with two hits.

At Dallas, Christina Schappert, who went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a home run, scored the second of her two runs on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to clinch a Mountaineer win.

Samantha Kern went 3 for 4 for Dallas, while Lyndsey Hornlein and Lilly Lombardo had two hits apiece.

Brinley Sobeck (3 for 4, two runs, two RBIs) hit a home run for Nanticoke Area. Emily Brown also went 3 for 4 for the Trojanettes.
