SCOPE will offer emergency preparedness class for homeowners on Dec. 8

December 6, 2018

Spokane’s Sheriff Community Oriented Policing Effort is holding an emergency preparedness class for homeowners at the Eastside Library in south Spokane.

The class, which is on Dec. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m., will feature Vern Page, an expert with more than 40 years of experience teaching home preparedness.

Page, a former U.S. Air Force survival instructor, has served as a consultant for the city of Spokane during Y2K as well as a Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape contractor with the U.S. Department of Defense.

Page often poses the question to students: “Would you, your family and your neighbors be able to survive with zero services at minus 10 degrees for 10 days?”

If the answer is anything but a “resounding yes,” then his class is for you, according to Page’s website.

Class attendees will learn 12 key emergency items they should have in their home, how to survive without water or power during a severe winter storm and understanding food essentials.
