YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) _ Keitaro Hoshino of Japan won the WBA's 105-pound title Wednesday night with a unanimous decision over champion Joma Gamboa of the Philippines.

Gamboa was making his first defense of his minimum weight title.

``From the earlier rounds, I thought Gamboa wasn't in good shape because his punches weren't accurate,'' said Hoshino, the WBA's 12th-ranked contender.

Hoshino raised his record to 21-6, with five knockouts. Gamboa is 29-6-1, with 20 knockouts.

There were no knockdowns in the 12-round bout at Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall.

In the seventh round, Hoshino jolted Gamboa with a left hook and straight right. Gamboa became aggressive from the ninth round on, attacking with uppercuts. But Hoshino was able to defend himself and won on all three cards.

South Korea judge Yuh Wansoo scored it 117-112 and Japanese judges Takeo Harada and Hiroyuki Tezaki both had it 115-113.

Gamboa weighed 104 1/2 pounds and Hoshino 105.
