BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) _ T.J. Johnson and Darnell Williams scored six points each during a 23-0 run that broke the game open early as No. 9 Xavier beat Western Kentucky 93-60 Saturday night.
Lenny Brown led Xavier (5-0) with 22 points and five assists, Gary Lumpkin and James Posey had 16 points apiece. Williams finished with 15 and Johnson added 12.
Monty Latimer led Western (2-2) with 12 points. The Hilltoppers’ leading scorer, Joe Harney, who averages 15 points per game, was held to six.
Western scored the first five points of the game but then went more than 10 minutes without scoring, missing 14 consecutive shots, as Xavier took a 23-5 lead on a 3-pointer by Williams with 9:04 left in the half.
Xavier stretched the lead to 49-26 at halftime before Western went on a 13-5 spurt over the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second half to come within 15 points. But that was as close as Western would get, as Xavier expanded the lead to as much as 35 points.
Western committed 29 turnovers and was held to 40.4 percent from the field. The Musketeers shot 56.9 percent from the field and hit 26 of 31 free throws.
The last time the teams met was in 1966, when Xavier won 98-73.
