Point of Interest: Stamford adds sidewalks to portion of Hope Street
HOPE STREET AND TOMS ROAD: It is a lot of work for a little sidewalk, Transportation Bureau Chief Jim Travers admits. But adding sidewalks to this 200-foot stretch of Hope Street is a priority for the city after Travers said he saw students from nearby schools walking in the street. Sidewalks adorn the western side of Hope Street for miles combined north and south of this anti-pedestrian patch, but retaining walls and extended driveways for three homes on Hope Street have long dispelled any hopes of continuity. Through the fall, backhoes and city workers have sought to rectify the issue. Work this week seems nearly complete after weeks of earth moving, although the area is shrouded in orange cones. Only one small stretch of the already small span remains without a sidewalk.
