LONDON (AP) — Alexander Zverev has denied Roger Federer a shot at a 100th career title, beating Federer 7-5, 7-6 today to advance to the championship match at the ATP Finals. But the victory was tainted by a ball boy interrupting a point during a crucial second-set tiebreaker. Federer was leading the tiebreaker 4-3 and in the midst of a rally when a ball boy at the back of the court dropped a ball, and the umpire ordered the point to be replayed. Zverev served an ace before going on to close out the match moments later.

NEW YORK (AP) — No. 3 Notre Dame tries to stay undefeated when the 10-0 Fighting Irish take on Syracuse this afternoon at Yankee Stadium. No. 12 Syracuse enters the game with its highest ranking in 20 years. The game is one of three on today’s college football schedule matching ranked teams.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The semifinals of the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament are getting started in Connecticut with No. 18 Michigan playing George Washington. The winner will face either Providence or South Carolina for the championship tomorrow. The Wolverines are coming off a 73-46 win on the road over No. 8 Villanova. Winless George Washington is facing its second straight ranked opponent. The Colonials lost to No. 4 Virginia last Sunday.

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) — There’s a pair of consolation-round games today in the Paradise Jam tournament in the Virgin Islands. Old Dominion faces Kennesaw State in the opening game before Northern Iowa takes on Eastern Kentucky. The semifinals are tomorrow, with Oregon State playing Missouri and No. 12 Kansas State facing Penn.

MOSCOW (AP) — Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan has won gold at the Rostelecom Cup despite an ankle injury that left him on crutches after the competition. The injury leaves him uncertain about whether he’ll compete in the Japanese nationals or in the Grand Prix Final in December.
