Jagr Scores 1,000th Career Point

December 31, 2000

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Jaromir Jagr of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored the 1,000th point of his NHL career Saturday night against Ottawa, on a second-period goal set up by Mario Lemieux.

Jagr, in his 11th NHL season, is the 59th player _ and 18th active player _ to reach the milestone.

Lemieux, playing his second game since ending a 3 1/2-year retirement, took Hans Jonsson’s pass behind the net and made a wraparound pass to the crease, where Jagr put it past goaltender Jani Hurme for his seventh goal in seven games.

The goal was Jagr’s second in as many games since Lemieux returned to the lineup. Jagr, a four-time NHL scoring champion, had two goals and two assists Wednesday in a 5-0 victory against Toronto.

Jagr scored his 400th goal Nov. 18 at Colorado.

The assist was Lemieux’s second of the game and gave him 1,499 points in his career. Only nine players in NHL history have at least 1,500 points.
