Diaz Arce To Rejoin D.C. United

January 13, 2001

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) _ Raul Diaz Arce, the second leading scorer in Major League Soccer history, signed a new contract with the league Friday and will rejoin D.C. United.

Diaz Arce’s previous contract expired December. The Salvadoran forward had been making more than $200,000 per year. While details of the new deal were not disclosed, it is almost certain he signed for a lesser amount because of salary cap limitations.

Because his previous contract expired, Diaz Arce cannot rejoin United until he gets a new work visa. That could take at least two weeks, which means Diaz Arce will likely miss United’s games in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, which begins Tuesday in California.
