Veterinary Dentistry Specialists Opens New Clinic in Chadds Ford, PA

March 11, 2019

CHADDS FORD, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 11, 2019--Carlos Rice, DVM, DAVDC, owner of Veterinary Dentistry Specialists (VDS), a full-service advanced dental care practice for companion animals based in Mt. Laurel, NJ, has announced the opening of a second clinic located at 455 Old Baltimore Pike in Chadds Ford, PA. At the helm are two well-respected specialists, veterinary dentist John Lewis, VMD, FAVD, DAVDC and veterinary anesthesiologist S. Bryce Dooley, DVM, MS, DACVAA.

VDS is entirely dedicated to advanced dentistry and oral surgery for pets. It is one of only a few dentistry practices in the country where a full-time, board-certified veterinary dentist and a full-time, board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist work together onsite to ensure the best care and outcomes. While dental disease is prevalent in the majority of companion animals, there are only 172 active board-certified veterinary dentists and only 220 board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists in the United States. This unique combination of expertise provides the safest, most comfortable experience for each patient. For this reason, there is no need for pet parents to fear anesthesia.

Originally a farmstead barn, the building was converted to a winery five years ago. “The winery owners did an outstanding job with the restoration of the barn,” said Dr. Lewis. “We spent a large amount of time and resources creating a facility that respects and retains much of the building’s history, while also showcasing the future of veterinary dentistry. I think it’s safe to say that this facility rivals even the best medical facilities for humans. We are excited to open our doors and provide concierge-level care for pets in the region.”

Many pet owners just assume that stinky breath goes with having a pet — but it doesn’t have to, and it is usually a sign of needed care. Regular dental examinations with a primary care veterinarian are an important part of a pet’s overall healthcare. If advanced care is necessary, a referral to VDS may be recommended.

Symptoms of pet dental problems that may indicate treatment is needed:

  • Bad breath
  • Buildup of tartar
  • Eating difficulties
  • Excessive salivation
  • Facial swelling
  • General fatigue
  • Head shyness
  • Loose or broken teeth
  • Lumps or bumps in their mouth
  • Stained or dark teeth
  • Swollen/irritated gums
  • Weight loss

At VDS, advanced services are available for the care of orofacial conditions and diseases that affect the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. These services cover tooth restoration, periodontal surgery, oral oncologic surgery, jaw fractures, salivary gland diseases, endodontics, orthodontics, palate surgery, and much more.

In partnership with primary care veterinarians and other veterinary specialists across the region, VDS accepts referred patients Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 7:00 pm. For more information or to make an appointment, call 484-775-0557 or email chaddsford@vdsvets.com.
