Ohio Priest Removed After Abuse Allegation
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) _ A Roman Catholic priest who played a major role in church fundraising was barred from the ministry by the Diocese of Toledo amid allegations he molested a boy nearly 30 years ago.
Allegations against the Rev. Robert Yeager surfaced in 2004, but the diocese’s review board did not have credible information to substantiate the claims until now, the diocese said in a statement Tuesday.
Before retiring in 2005, Yeager oversaw the diocese’s $60 million capital improvement campaign. He is listed as executive director of the Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference, a private firm in Waterville that advises dioceses around the country on financial management.
A message seeking comment was left early Wednesday on Yeager’s voice mail at the firm’s offices.
Catherine Hoolahan, a lawyer for the alleged victim, said has been meeting with attorneys for the diocese since 2004, but has not filed a lawsuit on behalf of her client.
``My client was very happy to have the allegations deemed credible and feels that children are safer today,″ she said.
