Belle Fourche School District gets bomb threat Thursday morning

BELLE FOURCHE — At approximately 1:45 p.m. this afternoon, the Belle Fourche School District notified parents of threatening emails sent to the district stating that a bomb was placed in the Belle Fourche Middle School. A ransom was asked to be paid to remove the threat.

According to a message distributed to parents via email and phone, Belle Fourche is one of many South Dakota schools to receive the threat. The State of South Dakota K-12 Data Center is working to identify persons responsible and has identified this as a scam.

Additionally, the message stated that a second threat was made at the high school, and as soon as the district was contacted with the threat, law enforcement was notified and steps were put in place to insure the safety of the district’s students and staff.All school buildings are working under their safety protocols, and school will remain in session until the end of the day.
