Lowell Man Charged with Striking Woman with Car While Fleeing Police
LOWELL -- A Lowell man is facing multiple charges after striking a 20-year-old woman with his vehicle while fleeing the scene of a fight that broke out in the Belvidere neighborhood around midnight Monday, police say.
Patrick Deoliveira, 21, did not stop after striking the victim, but was taken into custody a short time later after being tracked down by police, according to Lowell police Capt. Paul Laferriere.
The 20-year-old was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Her condition was not immediately available.
The incident began for police shortly after midnight when they responded to the area 206 Stackpole St. where they found the woman lying on the ground suffering from visible injuries, Laferriere said.
An investigation established Deoliveira had allegedly gotten into a fight at a party, which spilled out into the street. The Lowell man entered his vehicle and fled the scene, striking the woman in the process, police said.
“He continued without stopping,” Laferriere said.
A “be on the lookout” call was put out by police for Deoliveira’s vehicle, which was spotted on Andover Street. Deoliveira allegedly fled on foot before being apprehended on Warren Court.
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence causing serious injury, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Deoliveira’s arraignment information was not immediately available.
