Soroptimists hosts Chair-ity Art Event
SCOTTSBLUFF — Brightly colored chairs, chairs with themes, chairs covered in yarn, stools and children’s chairs are among more than 50 chairs going up for auction for a good cause.
After several months of painting chairs, The Soroptimist International of Scotts Bluff County members and community volunteers will have the chance to see their hard work go toward a good cause.
“Everyone has been painting chairs all summer long,” said Betty Kenyon, Soroptimist. “We even have one from a 4-H club in Kimball County.”
The West Nebraska Arts Center will present the Chair-ity Art Event in their Bronson Gallery. The Painted Chair Fundraiser will benefit Soroptimist International of Scotts Bluff County.
“It’s been amazing how well this has been received in the community,” Kenyon said. “And all the money will benefit women and children in the county.”
The mission of the Soroptimists is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Proceeds from the Chair-ity Art Event will go toward helping local high school seniors and women in the community who are furthering their education. Community members, businesses, WNAC members and artists were invited to paint chairs, benches, trunks, stools, etc. to sell in a silent auction at WNAC with open bidding during the duration of the exhibit, which will also include a buy-it-now price.
The Chair-ity Art Event opens on Thursday, Sept. 13, with a reception from 5-7 p.m., with a cash bar, hors d’ oeuvres and refreshments. During the reception, there will be a special Breast Cancer Awareness truck to be raffled off with all proceeds going to Festival of Hope. Tickets are $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets. The Chair-ity Art event can be viewed in the Bronson Gallery from Sept. 13 through Oct. 28. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Gallery admission is free and open to the public.
