May 14, 1985

WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Reagan will meet with President Jose Napoleon Duarte of El Salvador on Thursday, the White House announced.

Spokesman Larry Speakes, announcing the meeting Tuesday, said Duarte would also confer with Vice President George Bush, Secretary of State George Shultz and Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger.

Duarte last met with Reagan a year ago.

″His visit is for normal consultations and discussions on Central America and U.S.-Salvadoran relations,″ Speakes said.

He said Duarte will also meet with members of Congress, where Reagan’s requests for aid to the Salvadoran government, which is fighting a leftist revolution, have been met with resistance although in the main they have been approved.

Speakes said Duarte will be in the United States from Wednesday until May 24 and will receive an honorary degree Saturday from his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
