Audit finds fault with county treasurer’s mileage paperwork

December 7, 2017

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska auditor’s office says the Lancaster County treasurer’s requests for $3,400 in mileage reimbursement have lacked property documentation for the past three years.

An audit report released Wednesday says the missing information included reasons and dates for Andy Stebbing’s trips and included possibly incorrect mileage and reimbursement requests for trips taken on legal holidays. Only four of 568 days’ mileage requests included the purpose of the trips.

Stebbing says his requests have lacked such details since he took office in 2011 and says no one told him he needed to provide the information. He says he’s requested reimbursement for just a fraction of his daily mileage.

He’s awaiting trial on criminal charges that he sold cars without a dealer’s license and filed fraudulent tax returns. He’s denied the allegations.
