CINCINNATI (AP) _ The son of former NFL coach Buddy Ryan is among six newly hired assistants to Cincinnati football coach Rick Minter.

Rex Ryan will serve as Minter's defensive coordinator. Ryan spent the past two years working for his father coaching the Arizona Cardinals' defensive line in 1994 and the linebackers in 1995.

Minter's other new assistants are Kim Dameron, coaching the defensive backs; Brian Williams, linebackers; John Montgomery, wide receivers; Sam Pittman, tight ends and offensive tackles, and Bob Wylie, the rest of the offensive line.

Ryan also was a defensive coach for four years at Morehead State. Dameron was the defensive coordinator at Murray State for three years.

Montgomery has 18 years of experience in college coaching, including last year as offensive coordinator at Alabama A&M. Pittman was the offensive line coach at Northern Illinois the past two seasons.

Williams has eight years in the college coaching ranks, most recently as linebackers coach at Fresno State the past three years. Wylie has coached for 16 years in the NFL and college. He spent the past four years as offensive line coach for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the previous two years as tight ends coach for the New York Jets.
