Portage police notebook for September 21, 2018

Between 8:18 a.m. Tuesday and 7:16 a.m. Friday, police responded to 96 calls.

East Pleasant Street: Police on Sept. 15 at 4:27 p.m. responded with an ambulance. A 20-year-old Portage man was arrested and charged with endangering safety with a weapon, battery, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct, all as domestic charges.

New Pinery Road and County Highway CX: Police on Sept. 15 at 8:20 p.m. responded to a reported traffic accident where a vehicle turning south onto New Pinery Road from eastbound CX was struck by an SUV. The woman driving the SUV reportedly identified herself before driving away. Micah Grigsby, 36, of Portage, was later cited for hit-and-run.

DeWitt Street: Police on Sept. 16 at 1:05 a.m. responded with an ambulance call in downtown Portage, reporting a fight and a woman armed with scissors. A 22-year-old Portage woman was arrested and charged with battery to law enforcement, battery to emergency staff, discharge of bodily fluids, obstructing an officer, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, and criminal damage to property.

New Pinery Road: Police on Tuesday at 8:18 a.m. responded to a series of disturbances. A 13-year-old boy was referred to Columbia County Health and Human Services for disorderly conduct regarding three disturbances and three different schools.

Eastridge Drive: Police on Tuesday at 3:51 p.m. responded to a request from Probation and Parole, taking Cassandra Aiken, 29, of Lodi, into custody for violation of probation and an suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ridge Motor Inn: Police on Wednesday at 1:34 a.m. responded to a disturbance where a 26-year-old Columbus woman was arrested on a Department of Corrections warrant and on suspicion of domestic disorderly conduct and domestic battery.

Portage High School: Police on Wednesday at 10:10 a.m. responded to a disturbance following a report of suspected drug activity. A 17-year-old male of Portage was cited for possession of tobacco on school grounds following a vehicle search revealing three packs of cigarettes.

New Pinery Road: Police on Wednesday at 11:55 a.m. responded to a reported traffic accident where a vehicle had stopped in the left southbound lane intending to turn into Sal’s Pizza and was then rear-ended. The driver of the other vehicle, a 17-year-old female of Portage, was cited for inattentive driving. Both vehicles were towed.

Portage High School: Police on Wednesday at 1:28 p.m. responded to a disturbance where a 15-year-old female was referred to Juvenile Court for battery and disorderly conduct.

Festival Foods: Police on Wednesday at 4:29 p.m. responded to an incident where a fight allegedly arose from a customer hitting a woman’s electric scooter with a cart. An argument reportedly continued and escalated to a fight in the parking lot. Frank Albano, 60, of Portage, was arrested on suspicion of battery and disorderly conduct. John Fitzgerald, 72, was issued a misdemeanor citation for disorderly conduct.

East Marion Street and DeWitt Street: Police on Thursday at 6:17 p.m. responded to a driving complaint. Jacob Schonenberger, 31, of Portage, was stopped and cited for displaying false registration plates, non-registration of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance and operating a vehicle after revocation as a 22nd offense.

New Pinery Road: Police on Thursday at 6:49 p.m. responded to a report involving a warrant. A 17-year-old Portage male was arrested on a warrant and issued a citation for possession of marijuana after baggie found in his underwear.
