OCONOMOWOC -- Ralph H. Christian, 82, of Oconomowoc, formerly of the town of Concord, passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc with the Rev. Steven Pagels officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will take place at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery in Concord. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, St. Matthew’s Lutheran School, Lakeside Lutheran High School or a charity of one’s choice.

Ralph Harold Christian was born on Sept. 30, 1936, to Harold and Florence (nee Rupnow) Christian in Concord. Ralph married Ruth Ann Dorn on July 22, 1956, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Concord. He worked at the Mead Nursery for five years before purchasing the company. He owned and operated Mead Nursery with his brother-in-law Jim Abel for over 30 years before his retirement.

He was an active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. He lived a strong Christian faith with weekly church attendance and was proud that his grandchildren attended Lutheran schools. Ralph enjoyed snowmobiling and going up north to their home in Boulder Junction. He liked playing sheepshead, and dancing to polkas.

Ralph was a people person who rarely missed an event and looked forward to the annual Christian family reunion. He enjoyed sitting with his wife on the bench waving to people as they drove past Shorehaven. Ralph loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always made sure he got a hug and a kiss.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Christian of Oconomowoc; children, Keith (Laurie) Christian of Concord, Kenneth (Alice) Christian of Concord, Kay (Jerry) Schultz of Watertown; grandchildren, Jacob Christian, Marcia (Clint) Rupp, Katie (Pete) Herbst, Courtney Schultz, Cody Schultz, Ryan Christian, Rachel Christian, Kacee Christian; great-grandchildren, Lauren Herbst, Oliver Rupp, Lucy Herbst; siblings, Harriet (Donald) Groose, Joanne (Jim) Abel, David (Karen) Christian, Darrell (Cheryl) Christian; special friend Harvey Buske. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence Christian.

The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc for the wonderful care they have provided.
