JACKSON, Miss. (AP) _ Gov. Kirk Fordice said today he and his wife are divorcing and he will marry a Memphis widow who recently was his traveling companion.

The statement, released after noon by his attorney, comes the same week he had a confrontation with a television reporter over a report on the governor's European vacation with Ann G. Creson.

Attorney Jim Becker, speaking for Fordice, also said that the governor and his wife, Pat, had been estranged for some time and the divorce would be resolved ``equitably and with dignity.''
